Poetry

Poetry

From never-ending poetry to Haiku, passing through Romanticism, Concrete Poetry and then committed poetry… There are no boundaries, no precise goal, and no special project. Just the everyday need to fill up the blank pages to avoid falling into emptiness. A few dozen book of poetry were written by Toninho Almeida from this experience.

“I used to write like I breathed, all the time, from morning to night, as soon as the opportunity showed. It was convulsive and uncontrollable… Like an athlete seeking performance, I was trying to survive my fears and anxieties.”

“Poetry came into my life before music did, as something essential… It rescued me; without her, I don’t even know if I know. To me, it’s like a compulsion. In São-Paulo, Recife, Euclides, Salvador, and Rio de Janeiro, I was writing everywhere and all the time. I then revisited my texts when I arrived in Europe.”
